September Featured Artist: Jeff Krino, Painter/Sculptor

Opening Reception:
September 19 from 6-8 pm

Parkside Arts Council Gallery
Downtown Bellaire

Introducing Jeff Krino, a painter/sculptor and featured artist this month at the Parkside Arts Council downtown Gallery. Krino is also a licensed residential builder that focuses on custom carpentry and design. His work is a combination of acrylic and enamel paints, spray paint, and “found” objects.

While attending Ohio University Fine Arts program, Krino began to combine the use of painting, photography and ultimately three dimensional found objects. His work has become primarily sculptural, utilizing bone, rubber, wood, sinew, and various types of metal. “The assembled sculptures are born through the integration of these materials with one another onto a wood panel, which is framed and becomes a wall hung sculpture,” describes Krino.

“I aim to reveal the unseen beauty within these otherwise ‘everyday’ objects, and to bring to attention the undeniable human impact on our natural surroundings. I question what is natural,” states Krino. “Each piece is an attempt to answer this, and in the end, becomes anything but ‘natural’. This work is a fabrication of my surrounding environment. It is an illusion that visually redefines an animal bone, a slab of rubber, or an old rusty piece of metal. It is an ode to all objects.”

Krino has shown his work in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and several galleries throughout Michigan including Traverse City, Petoskey, and Saline. He was awarded ‘Best in Mixed Media’ at the ‘Art on the Rocks’ art festival in Marquette, MI in 2004 and 2005. Krino was named “A new remarkable artist” by Northern Express in 2005. Jeff Krino lives in Bellaire with his wife, Rachel, and his two boys, ages 2 and 4, sharing his time between his family, his business as Tributary Builders and as an artist.
